Discussion Group: In Conversation with Reuben Woolley and Panayiotis Xenophontos on Jimi Hendrix Live in Lviv

In April 2023, the first English translation of Andrey Kurkov’s 2012 novel Jimi Hendrix Live in Lviv was published in the UK by Maclehose Press. We were joined by the book’s translator, Reuben Woolley, and Panayiotis Xenophontos, Lecturer in Russian at the University of Oxford for a discussion of Kurkov’s work, Ukrainian literature in wartime, and the world of literary translation.

Reuben Woolley is a translator from Russian to English. Jimi Hendrix Live in Lviv is his first full-length translation. His second, The Gospel According To by Sergey Khazov Cassia, will be released in late 2023. He is currently taking the MSt course in Comparative Literature and Critical Translation at St. Anne’s College, Oxford.

Panayiotis Xenophontos is a Lecturer in Russian at the University of Oxford (Jesus College). He teaches Russian literature from the early nineteenth century to the present day.
