What does it mean to do Comparative Literature in Oxford? And what does it mean to do Comparative Literature in Tunis?
The Oxford–Tunis Comparative Literature Forum is a collaboration between the Oxford Comparative Criticism and Translation (OCCT) Research Centre and the Laboratoire Intersignes at University of Tunis, which has brought together scholars from the University of Oxford and a range of Tunisian universities for exchanges on Comparative Literature and the state of the discipline, in the United Kingdom and Tunisia.
These exchanges have consisted of a series of dialogues staged by members of the Oxford and Tunis delegations, across languages such as English, French, Arabic, and Portuguese, on the following topics: History of the Discipline, Methodologies of Comparison, and the Role of Translation.
The 2024 OCCT delegation consisted of Prof Mohamed-Salah Omri, Prof Matthew Reynolds, Dr Tinashe Mushakavanhu, Dr Joseph Hankinson, Dr Georgia Nasseh, and Ms Alyssa Ollivier-Tabukashvili. They joined scholars from the Université de Tunis, Université Tunis El Manar, Université de la Manouba, Université de Médenine, and Université de Sousse as well as from the Tunisian Academy of Sciences, Letters and Arts (Beit El Hikma). Please see the poster below for the full list of delegates.
