I am Professor of English and Comparative Literature, working on nineteenth- and twentieth-century literature, and focusing especially on cultural exchange, classical reception, translation and the relationship between literary and visual cultures. My latest book is Literary Cosmopolitanism in the English Fin de Siècle: Citizens of Nowhere (OUP, 2021). Together with Clément Dessy and Patrick McGuinness, I am currently in charge of an international network on Decadence and Symbolism as World Literature, funded by the Wiener-Anspach Foundation, as well as being Co-Investigator on the ERC-funded project Chromotope, which studies changing understandings of colour in the nineteenth century. From 2023 to 2026, I will hold an Einstein Visiting Fellowship at the Humboldt University, Berlin.
